Our Vision

Build a Mindful Nation

To promote and cultivate mindfulness practices that empower individuals to lead balanced, purposeful lives. We aim to create a society that values mental health as much as physical health, where compassion and empathy are the cornerstones of our interactions.

Our Mission

Cultivate Seeds That Nurtures Mindfulness and Well-Being.

We envision a world where every person has access to the tools and resources needed to develop a mindful approach to life. By building a community that embraces mindfulness, we hope to inspire positive change at both an individual and societal level.

History

Origin of Sithbo

SITHBO was founded by Dr. Prasanna Jayatilake in 2014, inspired by the transformative impact of the Science of Living model in his counselling practice. Established to extend mindful and meaningful living beyond therapy.

SITHBO now promotes psychosocial well-being through personal development, family harmony, and community-focused initiatives, fostering resilience, balance, and purposeful living.

Sithbo Journey

2016

Offering with Reverence and Gratitude

In 2016, SITHBO organized a sacred Atapirikara Poojawa, offering essential requisites to 108 Buddhist monks as an act of gratitude, generosity, and spiritual merit. Rooted in the Buddhist tradition of dāna (giving), this offering ceremony created a meaningful space for reverence, collective intention, and blessings. The event reflected a deep commitment to spiritual values, fostering harmony, compassion, and inner peace within the community while honoring the role of the Sangha in guiding and sustaining spiritual life.

Reaching Out with Compassion

SITHBO extended counselling support to individuals and families, helping them navigate personal challenges with care and empathy. This year also marked the beginning of the weekly Light Offering Ceremony, a sacred space for spiritual reflection, blessings, and inner peace as part of the healing process.

Supporting Through the Pandemic

During the COVID-19 pandemic, SITHBO continued its mission through online counselling via Zoom, ensuring consistent emotional support despite physical distance. A social media awareness campaign was launched, sharing educational and mindfulness-based videos that guided people in managing stress, anxiety, and uncertainty during lockdowns.

Expanding Mindfulness Practices

As the need for emotional support grew, SITHBO introduced two-day mindfulness retreats that helped participants reconnect with themselves and regain balance. Alongside, short-term practice sessions (2–3 hours) and awareness programs were conducted both locally and internationally. Monthly Light Offering Ceremonies and regular meditation sessions continued, nurturing mindfulness and spiritual resilience.

Deepening the Practice

By 2025, SITHBO has conducted 17 two-day mindfulness retreats, offering diverse mindfulness tools and experiences for participants at all levels. The Light Offering Ceremonies remain a monthly tradition, while the newly launched Guided Body Scan Program, a three-hour mindfulness meditation invites participants to cultivate body awareness, acceptance, and present-moment focus. Regular meditation sessions continue to strengthen our mission of promoting mindfulness, compassion, and holistic well-being within communities.
